GABRIELE M. TRAPANI - BIO

Gabe Trapani is a highly driven, intuitive and self-motivated professional with a wealth of experience conducting comprehensive analyses of printing operations in companies/plants of all sizes, including highly respected, industry leading firms.  Having mastered all aspects of printing press theory and processes early in his career, he built a successful consulting business, traveling extensively around the world addressing issues pertaining to quality control, cost reduction and increased productivity on behalf of numerous client companies.  Utilizing tact and diplomacy, Gabe has successfully trained entire printing press crews in new/innovative processes, often resulting in millions of dollars in revenue increases.   His key strengths include:  Extensive experience conducting printing plant evaluations, performed complex root cause analyses, works closely with top management, possesses in-depth technical knowledge of printing processes, and has achieved dramatic results through operational re-engineering.

As owner of GMT Consulting, Gabe is actively involved in assisting printing plants in identifying production problems and establishing operational efficiencies,  and has provided consulting services to Time Warner (Ivy-Hill Packaging, performing major set-up and operational evaluations for five printing plants), also to Kodak, CREO, Adams McClure, Magicolor and Impact, to name a few.

Selected Accomplishments

·         Complex Operational Analysis:  Through careful evaluation of printing plant operations, successful training of personnel and recommendations to top management regarding acquisition of new machinery, press crew was reduced by 50% and production was increased by 220%.  Facilitated data collection to expose significant shortcomings of old machinery.  Conducted analysis of data collected by press crews who traveled to different manufacturers’ locations for test printing.  Purchased new and rebuilt machinery, resulting in higher quality and projections for significant revenue increases.

·         Creative Re-engineering:  Played major role in setting up new systems, resulting in company’s receipt of high-volume printing contracts from large, multi-national firms. Responsible for all aspects of installing more modern, sophisticated printing equipment.  Recognizing need to maximize productivity through education of plant personnel on new processes, developed flow charts and utilized printing simulations to train press crews, foremen and plant management.  Efforts viewed as pivotal in company’s successful transition to more modern and efficient printing methods.

·        Technical Support:  Very early in career, assisted start-up efforts for small printing plant.  Addressed equipment repair needs and trained press crew on quality control, customer expectations, color measurements and new techniques.  At point of plant expansion, provided technical consulting services for moving, reinstalling and testing equipment at new location. Company ultimately experienced significant growth to over $15 million in gross sales.

·         Image Enhancement:  Played major role in company’s award of ISO 9000 Certification, a distinction enjoyed by very few printing plants in the United States.  Designed data reports for all printing presses at plant and developed certificates of analysis for incoming materials, including inks, water solution and paper. Efforts resulted in better quality control, an enhanced ability to attract more sophisticated customers and countless long-term benefits for company.

·        Creative Process Solutions:  Through comprehensive testing and analysis of printing ink, saved company $250,000, while delivering better print quality.  Organized print test procedure, arranged for ink shipment by different company and performed analysis to establish best ink performance relative to cost per pound.  Process resulted in identification of inks with superior performance, including high density and contrast, low dot gain and 20% better ink “mileage.”

·        Innovative Problem-Solving:  Responsible for millions of dollars in increased gross sales on behalf of packaging company. Conducted in-depth analyses of ink fading process and developed improved methodologies designed to achieve imperceptible color variations on cartons and boxes.  In one instance, conceived, organized and coordinated simultaneous print testing in three different plant locations around the country, a task which had not been accomplished in the graphic arts industry.  Efforts resulted in high level of customer satisfaction.

·         Superior Printing Plant Evaluations:  Assisted major printing plants in achievement of enhanced quality and greater profitability through careful operational evaluations and equipment purchase recommendations.  Organized data collection; identified problems with existing equipment; implemented solid training on quality and color variation; defined customer complaints; and targeted areas for time savings and maximized efficiencies.  Efforts often completely re-shaped operations, resulting in highly impressive bottom-line results for client companies.

·         Print Profile:  Provide dot reproduction curve for different presses and substrates to be used in conjunction with CREO computer to plate system.

·         Optical Geometry:    Provided mechanical design for cylinder engraving that resulted in extrusion of optically clear and geometrically form lenses with fast motion and deep 3D effects.

·         LENTICULAR Printing:   Designed new computer program for LENTICULAR printing and image spacing, establish quality control standards for LENTICULAR sheets extrusion, created LENTICULAR models for various lenses, hold a patent pending on LENTICULAR credit card fabrication.
